* Beaumaris Conservation
Society Inc. has informed Bayside Council that it opposes the C28 proposal.
A representative of BCS Inc. addressed Council at its General Committee
meeting at 7 p.m. on Monday 16th December 2002. That meeting resolved to
abandon the proposal.
* Leaflet
urging abandonment of Bayside Council’s proposed Amendment C28, distributed
by campaigners from northern areas of the City of Bayside.
* It should be of concern that
the major areas of public open space, which are already dedicated to sporting
uses, should be further affected by the visual impact of the signs that
would have been enabled by the C28 change. The C28 statement lists the
following Beaumauris (sic) reserves as some of Bayside’s reserves for which
Planning Permits for “sponsored” signs could be granted:

  • Balcombe Park Reserve

  • Banksia Reserve

  • Beaumaris Reserve (the formal
    title of the Community Centre Reserve, which is already facing major impact
    from the proposed enlarged Library)

  • Yott Reserve (including the Bodley Street
    Tennis Centre)

 Under the heading “Environmental Effects” the C28 statement declares:

“The amendment should have no significant effect on the environment.
These types of sign would be discretionary, requiring submission of a planning
application for Council assessment. It will allow for the adequate and
effective display of signs.”
