| 3. PRESIDENT’S REPORT |
Ron Hayton gave his last report as president. Ron reported that of 11 refusals for building permits over the last year only 2 of these were subsequently refused by VCAT. This is disappointing. The Victorian Liberal Party has promised a revision of the Good Design Guide if re-elected on 18th September. This is good news because at the moment it is an ‘open slather ‘ situation. The Labor Party has also called for a review. The Draft Overlay Plan will be available for public comment in about 4 weeks – a density of 1 to 400 sq. m. is being requested. If this is passed it will be good news.
Vegetation Overlay – Black Rock and Beaumaris have been identified as significant in vegetation terms and in need of protection. Foreshore Master Plan – Tract Consultants are approaching the task of planning for the foreshore’s future with sensitivity. The draft document should be available in 4 weeks. The consultancy process has been excellent except for publicity for public meetings on the issue – could have been done better. The rehabilitation of the Ricketts Point area is going along nicely thanks to the Friends group, with valuable help from Excell. More helpers are needed. Please ring Louise on 9584 4755 if you can help. Council elections are coming up in March. It is vital that we get people elected who are sympathetic to the conservation cause. Ron thanked the Committee for their support during the past year and said that he will be happy to take up the role of Senior Vice-President. Resolved that report be accepted: MOVED – A. Gibson SECONDED – S. Hayton CARRIED |
