MINUTES OF THE GENERAL
MEETING OF THE BEAUMARIS TREE PRESERVATION SOCIETY
 

HELD ON 30TH APRIL 1956

The meeting was chaired by the president, Mr (Colin) Macrae and there
were 40 members present.

Minutes of the previous general meeting were read and accepted –
moved Mrs. (Bea)
Hosking, seconded Mr. Hassett.

Apologies were received from Mr. & Mrs. Sinclair, Mrs. Webb
and Mrs. Bartholomew

Treasurer’s Report The treasurer reported that the balance-in-hand was
£202-11-1. A detailed statement of the accounts since 24th
October 1955 was handed around to members. Mr. Scott moved
that the report be accepted, Mr. Plumridge seconded the
motion.

President’s

Report

Mr. (Colin) Macrae
gave a resumé of the activities of the society since the
last annual general meeting in October. This covered two
planting schemes planned for the Beaumaris Traders
Association, & the Fourth, Hornby, Hilton & Bolton
Street progress association, replanting of trees in Scott
& Haldane Sts, & the lower end of Dalgetty Rd, the
distribution of the new leaflet, work at the Donald
MacDonald sanctuary, & sustained efforts to secure
land for a heathland sanctuary. 

Mr. (Colin) Macrae

then welcomed Mr. Jackson, who is a keen supporter of
the Murray Valley Development League. Mr Jackson then
gave a brief outline of the aims of the Murray Valley
Development League after which he showed three films,
two about the Snowy Mountains Scheme, & one of
wildflowers near Sydney. 

Mrs. (Bea) Hosking
proposed a vote of thanks to Mr. Jackson at the
conclusion of the films and assured him that all present
had been most interested & would have much to think
over after seeing so graphically the damage caused in
the catchment area by indiscriminate burning-off.

The meeting was closed at
10:30 p.m.
