2.	PRESENT TED PEARCE (CHAIRMAN), AND A QUORUM OF OVER TEN MEMBERS
3.	CONFIRMATION OF MINUTES OF THE 49TH AGM Resolved that the minutes of the 2001 Annual General Meeting be accepted as a true record. MOVED : ANNE GIBSON SECONDED : KEITH HOLMES
4.	PRESIDENT’S REPORT (SUMMARY) Ted Pearce expressed appreciation towards BCS Inc. Committee members for the past year’s involvement and achievements. He announced that he is now stepping down as President after 3 years and expressed gratitude for the support and friendship of office bearers over that time period. Ted then listed areas given attention and general developments over the past year: The Planning subcommittee has been dissolved as the Rescode Planning Scheme is now in force. Bayside C2 is still under consideration by the State Government, mainly in order to integrate C2 into the Melbourne Strategic Strategy (Melbourne 2030). Keen interest is being taken in the proposal by the Concourse Traders Association for alterations to the Concourse. The plan to increase parking spaces is being opposed. The Ricketts Point Tea-house extension is under critical assessment by the BCS Inc. Committtee. Marine Parks: We are pleased that these parks have finally been approved. We have communicated with Port Phillip Conservation Council Inc. in an exchange of views on marine parks and the proposed Port Phillip shipping channel deepening. We maintain a close liaison with other Conservation and Friends groups in Bayside to support our main aims. The changes at Keefer’s Jetty, proposed by DRNE and Bayside Council has been reviewed by BCS Inc. The path to the jetty will be closed and derelict parts of the jetty removed. Some additions will be made to maintain bird roosting. Proposal to provide foreshore car park hard surfacing has been assessed by consultants to the Council. The recommendations seem to have been carefully considered. BCS Inc. will take a close interest in the changes, due in 2003. Bayside Council elections in March 2003 are of great importance in respect of getting the best councillors to support the aims of BCS Inc. In this we co-operate with other like-minded groups in reviewing candidates.
.	TREASURER’S REPORT Report for the 2001-2002 year circulated. Resolved that the financial statement for 2001-2002 as circulated be adopted. MOVED: Geoffrey Goode SECONDED: Laurence Bottomley Geoff reported that our membership remained solid.
6.	ELECTION OF OFFICE BEARERS The following Office Bearers were elected for the year 2002-03: PRESIDENT: Adrian Cerbasi – unopposed SENIOR VICE-PRESIDENT: Keith Holmes – after a poll in which George Reynolds and Keith Holmes were the only candidates JUNIOR VICE-PRESIDENT: Anne Gibson – unopposed SECRETARY: Rose Allaway – unopposed TREASURER: Geoffrey Goode – unopposed ZONE LEADERS: The following nine people were nominated as candidates for the eight Zone Leader positions available, and the meeting agreed that the eight separate Zone Leader positions should be filled by the new Committee at its first meeting, from among those nine candidates: Fraser Gibson, Ingrid Ashford, Ted Pearce, Josie Cerbasi, Ron Morris, David Holmes, George Reynolds, Keith Foreman, Ken Rendell
7.	GENERAL BUSINESS Anne Gibson spoke on the proposed alterations to the Concourse, in particular the plan to add more car parking, and why BCS Inc. is opposed to this. She invited interested people to express their concerns in writing to councillors and to sign a petition, which was circulated at the meeting. Adrian Cerbasi read out a letter he has recently written to the Bayside Leader newspaper on this issue, in which he was critical of the slant provided by the writer. Laurence Bottomley also spoke on the car parking issue and suggested we meet journalists from the Bayside Leader and be photographed showing the plan for car parking, as the existence of this plan seems to be in some doubt. Resolved that the meeting pass an expression of regret that Dr John Ross will not be re-standing for his position in the Upper House due to illness, and write to him thanking him for his interest in and membership of the Society. 8.	REPORT ON PPCC INC. Geoff Goode spoke to the meeting about PPCC Inc., a federation of 14 conservation organizations; BCS Inc. is one of them. Recent concerns of the Council have been: The proposed deepening of shipping channels in Port Phillip Bay. The Victorian Channels Authority wants to deepen the channels to make way for bigger ships. PPCC Inc. is keeping a watch on this and through Geoff is keeping BCS Inc. members informed. Foreshore Bicycle Road. PPCC Inc. advocates that the single lane treatment on Beach Road be extended to Cromer Road to allow for the completion of the bicycle road in this section. Ricketts Point Tea-house extensions. The PPCC Inc. position is in favour of no further commercial development on the foreshore.
9.	GUEST SPEAKERS Carmen Skrobonja, the Manager of the Bayside Community Plant Nursery, and her Assistant, Erika Anderson, each delivered an informative talk and slide show on the historical background of interest in garden design with Australian and indigenous plants. Val Tarrant, a member of BRASCA Inc. and long-time supporter of PPCC Inc. and local conservation, spoke on conservation issues, particularly on certain people who have made a difference to policy and practice in this area, both in a wide and a local sense. Meeting closed 10:15 p.m. Supper was then served.
