MINUTES OF THE GENERAL MEETING OF THE BEAUMARIS TREE PRESERVATION SOCIETYHELD AT THE BEAUMARIS COMMUNITY CENTRE AT 8 P.M. ON FRIDAY 20TH MARCH 1970APOLOGIES: Mrs (Anne) Forbes, Mr (Michael) & Mrs (Gabrielle) Johnstone, Mr (John) Iggulden BUSINESS ARISING FROM PREVIOUS MINUTES: 1. Signs on the Beach Park area were discussed. 2. The status of boneseed and other noxious weeds in the City of Sandringham was reported by Mr (Geoffrey) Goode as being left by the Lands Department to the discretion of councils if they were metropolitan ones. 3. Mr (John) Carroll advised that he had had his letter, written as promised, published in the Beaumaris Newsletter. It was MOVED by Mr (William) Ridland SECONDED Mr (Alfred) Gilford that minutes be accepted. Carried unanimously. TREASURER’S REPORT: Mr (Alfred) Gilford reported that the current balance was 191-43 dollars. CORRESPONDENCE: MOVED by Mrs (Sheila) Ridland SECONDED by Mrs (Bea) Hosking that correspondence be accepted. CARRIED unanimously. BUSINESS ARISING FROM MINUTES: This was considered to be covered adequately by the headings under General Business on the agenda. REPORTS (b) Donald MacDonald Reserve Inspection Sub-committee: (c) Following discussion it was MOVED Mr (Geoffrey) Goode and SECONDED by Mr (Alfred) Gilford that our subscription to the National Trust should not be renewed. CARRIED unanimously. (d) Mr (Keith) Tarrant from BRASCA (Black Rock and Sandringham Conservation Association) reported on its activities particularly its opposition to the Harold Street Tip (Municipal Rubbish Tip on the Foreshore Reserve at Harold Street). Helped by his wife he reported that the tea tree in the area was planted in 1931 by the Field Naturalists Club of Victoria co-operating with the Sandringham City Council. The late Cr. Steele was interested. Present delay in work at the tip is caused by a dispute between Council and the Health Department according to Mr (William) Ridland. 1. Mr (William) Ridland reported on Port Phillip Conservation Council. MOVED by Mr (William) Ridland and SECONDED by Mr (Geoffrey) Goode that BTPS should agree to join the PPCC as an effective member. CARRIED unanimously. 2. Donald MacDonald Reserve: 3. Mrs (Sheila) Ridland suggested that the Secretary should write to the Education Department reminding them of the report they had promised on the High School Wildflower Sanctuary. 4. Members felt that the question of winding up of the Black Rock Foreshore Protection Committee should be left in abeyance for some 2 months. 5. Mr (Geoffrey) Goode reported on the Inaugural Meeting of the Conservation Council of Victoria. 6. The letter which the Secretary proposes to write on the Beach Park Banksia replanting was endorsed by the meeting. UNLISTED BUSINESS 1. Gramatan Avenue Heathland Sanctuary: DATES & PLACE OF NEXT MEETING: A Committee Meeting, to be held at 18 Anita Street at 8 P.M. on Monday 4th May 1970 Next General Meeting to be after 26th May preferably not on a Friday.
