MINUTES OF THE GENERAL MEETING OF THE BEAUMARIS TREE PRESERVATION SOCIETYHELD ON 30TH APRIL 1956 |

| The meeting was chaired by the president, Mr (Colin) Macrae and there were 40 members present. |
|
| Minutes | of the previous general meeting were read and accepted – moved Mrs. (Bea) Hosking, seconded Mr. Hassett. |
| Apologies | were received from Mr. & Mrs. Sinclair, Mrs. Webb and Mrs. Bartholomew |
| Treasurer’s Report | The treasurer reported that the balance-in-hand was £202-11-1. A detailed statement of the accounts since 24th October 1955 was handed around to members. Mr. Scott moved that the report be accepted, Mr. Plumridge seconded the motion. |
| President’s Report | Mr. (Colin) Macrae gave a resumé of the activities of the society since the last annual general meeting in October. This covered two planting schemes planned for the Beaumaris Traders Association, & the Fourth, Hornby, Hilton & Bolton Street progress association, replanting of trees in Scott & Haldane Sts, & the lower end of Dalgetty Rd, the distribution of the new leaflet, work at the Donald MacDonald sanctuary, & sustained efforts to secure land for a heathland sanctuary.
Mr. (Colin) Macrae then welcomed Mr. Jackson, who is a keen supporter of the Murray Valley Development League. Mr Jackson then gave a brief outline of the aims of the Murray Valley Development League after which he showed three films, two about the Snowy Mountains Scheme, & one of wildflowers near Sydney. Mrs. (Bea) Hosking proposed a vote of thanks to Mr. Jackson at the conclusion of the films and assured him that all present had been most interested & would have much to think over after seeing so graphically the damage caused in the catchment area by indiscriminate burning-off. |
