Our very own Bayside Community Nursery, established back in 1978, is a fantastic local resource, growing and supplying around 100,000 indigenous plants, grasses and trees per year.
The nursery sells stock for planting in our parks, inland and coastal bushland reserves, golf courses and local resident’s gardens.
The nursery’s aim is to protect Bayside’s biodiversity by growing plants from local seed stock, in turn raising awareness and appreciation of Bayside’s indigenous flora in public and private landscapes.
Without the nursery, these high quality indigenous plants of local provenance, would otherwise be unavailable. So, it’s a pretty special place to visit, get advice and grow your own garden. Overseen by a Nursery Steering Committee, it’s a Council funded environmental hub.
Closed in the hotter weather but open for planting season, nursery hours are Thursday to Sunday, 10am-12noon, April through to October.
You’ll find the nursery at 315-317 Reserve Rd. For general enquiries, call (03) 9583 8408.
Thinking of volunteering at the nursery?
A team of nursery volunteers work tirelessly sowing seeds, striking cuttings, helping with sales and caring for developing stock. New volunteers are always welcome and the nursery are hoping to open up on extra days. Just give Jill Robinson a bell on (03) 9583 8408 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
